This is a Joint Review and Giveaway of the Baby K'tan Baby Carrier & K'tanCloth from Baby K'tan between Natural Parents Network and Fine and Fair.
About the Baby K'tan Baby Carrier & K'tanClothThe Baby K'tan Baby Carrier is a unique baby carrier that offers the comfort and support of a stretchy wrap without the wrapping. It is safe for use with newborns and safely supports babies up to 35 pounds in multiple carrying positions with ergonomic positioning for baby and comfortable support with even weight distribution for the wearer. Made from 100% cotton knit fabric, there are no buckles or straps and no confusing wrapping techniques to master. With its ease of use and variety of gender neutral colors, Baby K'tan is a great carrier for moms and dads alike. The K’tanCloth 3-in-1 can be used as a burp rag, a nursing cover, or a blankie. It features easy on-and-off Velcro to attach it to baby carriers, nursing tanks, stroller handles, and an open-pocket design to catch messes. This breathable cloth is made from absorbent microfiber on one side and soft cotton on the other.
The instructions included with the Baby K'tan were very easy to follow, and I had my baby safely and securely snuggled into it within a minute of pulling it out of the box. I consider myself a very experienced babywearer, and the K'tan is one of the easiest to use carriers I've had the pleasure of trying. The ease of use makes it a great carrier for beginning babywearers since there are no buckles, long straps, wrapping, or tying involved. Simply slip the loops over your head, stick one arm through each loop, and you're ready to go! My husband, who has tried his own fair share of carriers, saw me trying it and exclaimed "Hey, that looks easy!" The design is ergonomic and allows for the recommended knee-to-knee seat for baby, and nicely distributes the weight across the shoulders and back with the extra support sash, which doubles as a storage bag!) The fabric is soft, cuddly, and high quality and easy to care for-just throw it in the washer and dryer when needed!
The Baby K'tan comes in great neutral colors and the "Breeze" version has a mesh panel to help stay cool in warmer climates. This is a sized carrier, and using the correct size is imperative in order to carry your baby securely. I found that it ran a bit large, as I typically wear a size Large or X-Large top, and the Medium K'tan was a good fit for me. I probably could have used a small if I had a smaller baby! This is a consideration for couples wishing to share a carrier; if they are not similarly sized, they would each require their own K'tan in an appropriate size.
The K'tan is safe to use with babies up to 35 pounds, however I think it is most ideal with newborns and smaller babies. My 9 month old weighs about 25 pounds, and with his weight, the carrier stretched and sagged a bit after a while. It's still a great option for quick errands or for those moments when I'm trying to get out of the house and he needs attention, but it would be more ideal for extended wear with a smaller baby. I brought it to a local babywearing meetup, and a friend with an 8 week old loved it and found it far easier to use than the wrap she'd been struggling with.
You can purchase your own Baby K'tan Baby Carrier at Baby K'tan for $49.95, as well as the K'tan Cloth 3-in-1 Burp Cloth, Nursing Cover, Blankie for $12.95.
